Duracell Rechargeable AA Batteries - Get The Most Out of Your Rechargeable Batteries
So, you’ve invested in rechargeable batteries and an external battery charger, but you aren’t getting the life out of your batteries that you had hoped. You can maximize the life of your rechargeable batteries by avoiding these three common mistakes. First, make sure that you are using the right type of battery charger (usually lithium ion or NiMH) to charge your batteries; otherwise they won’t be able to get a full charge and their life will be greatly reduced.
Charging
It’s important to charge your batteries before their first use and every time you put them on a shelf. Never store your rechargeable batteries in a discharged state. It can shorten their life and cause permanent damage. If you don’t plan on using them for an extended period, it’s best to bring them back to about 50% charge using either an external charger or through natural self-discharge. This also means that we recommend charging your rechargeables before putting them away for storage (i.e., Christmas).
Storage
Don’t store your batteries for extended periods of time—the less you do, the longer they’ll last. Instead, store them in a cool (not cold), dry place out of direct sunlight. If possible, avoid extreme temperatures like hot car trunks or freezing winter garages. Storing alkaline batteries in too much heat or cold can cause power loss and should be avoided at all costs if possible. A long shelf life is not a good thing when it comes to electronics!
Storing your batteries
Storing rechargeable batteries is simple, but it’s important to follow certain rules. Remove them from your gadgets when they aren’t in use and store them separately from one another to avoid short-circuiting or leakage. It’s also a good idea to store them in a cool, dry place away from moisture, light and heat.
How long will they last?
Rechargeable batteries may be more expensive up front, but with proper use and care, they can save you money in the long run. Duracell rechargeable batteries are designed to last for up to ten years when used correctly.
Can they be recharged if they run out?
No, rechargeable batteries cannot be recharged if they have already run out. It's important to note that you should always be using a reputable charger when charging your rechargeable batteries. Poorly made chargers can damage your batteries and reduce their lifespan. As with all Duracell batteries, these are charge-cycled at least 100 times before shipping to make sure you're getting a fully charged battery right out of the box.
